An Open Letter to Congress Part 2

In my last post, I began an open letter to Congress criticizing their self-serving cowardice and lack of integrity.  I issued a warning that we are watching and we will judge them harshly if they fail to deliver as promised.

Today I lay out a basic plan, an agenda, for Congress to fulfill the mandate delivered in the last election.  In doing this, I am making a leap of faith.  I am assuming that the majority of Congress will grow a spine and have the courage and integrity to look beyond the next election, and beyond the demands of the donor and lobbying class, to solve the festering long-term problems that face the nation.

To all the members of the House of Representatives and the Senate:

When your loyalty returns to the people, and to the nation, the solutions to our problems become amazingly clear and simple.  Here is a simple agenda that this Congress can easily complete and send to the president’s desk.

Repeal Obamacare and its myriad regulations in its entirety.  Do not replace it with another form of big government boondoggle.

If necessary, pass simple clear legislation, under the true meaning of the commerce clause, to ensure individuals are able to participate fully in a free and open market to purchase a health insurance policy from another state.

Make any adjustments, such as protecting individuals with preexisting condition, simply and directly in separately deliberated legislation.

Tax reform is even simpler.

Eliminate the entire labyrinth of the U.S. tax code.

Replace the tax code with a flat tax.  Everyone will pay a truly fair share.  If the rate is 10 per cent, then both the rich and the poor will pay their proportionate share.  No games.  No deductions.  No withholding.  No Internal Revenue Service.

Balancing the budget is not rocket science.

As any responsible head of household would do, cut up the credit cards, stop borrowing, and stop spending more than is earned.

This is a simple, rational concept that even Congress should understand and they could easily apply it to the federal budget process if they can put aside their selfish partisan wrangling and gets down to the business of putting the long-term well-being of country ahead of themselves.

Additionally, if spending and revenue are balanced, there will be no need, except in extreme emergencies, to borrow money.  As the old saying goes, never a borrower or lender be.

By balancing the budget and eliminating borrowing, the national debt will decline over time.  By balancing the budget, and funding only the projects deemed absolutely necessary and within the limitations of the enumerated powers in the Constitution, the need for large, ineffective, and costly federal bureaucracies becomes unnecessary, effectively downsizing the government.  In effect, this drains the swamp.

As spending contracts, the government contracts, and the less the government has to spend creates a smaller pie for the lobbyists and big donors to carve, thereby lessening their influence, and minimizing government interference in our lives.

We must make hard choices in order to achieve these goals.  Attitudes, both inside and outside of our government, must change.

The decades long tax and spend mentality must die.

The “gimme” mentality must die.  There can be no more free rides.

We must restructure the major entitlement programs (Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid) to maintain their continued viability and their ability to continue to serve their recipients.

It all starts with Congress.  Congress must grow a spine.  Congress must muster the courage and integrity to deal with these long-term issues now.  The country cannot wait.

The time to act is now.  We cannot wait until sometime far in the future in a galaxy far, far away, when all the stars and planets are in perfect alignment.

An Open Letter to Congress Part 1

To all the members of the House of Representatives and the Senate:

We, the people, spoke last November and swept the majority of into office because of your campaign promises.

You all have made similar promises, promises to repeal Obamacare, restructure the tax code, and balance the budget.

We also want you to take steps to eliminate the national debt, return to the rule of law, and to drain the swamp that is Washington, D.C.

Words are cheap.

We are closely watching what you do, and so far, you have failed.

We have a warning for all of you from any political party: Do what we ask.  Period.  As my father would say, we want no ifs ands or buts.

It is called integrity.

If you fail us, if you break our trust, the only way you will ever see Washington, D.C., again will be through the windows of a tour bus.

Since most of you are career politicians who spend your days wheeling and dealing, peddling lies, corruption, influence, while pursuing obstructive self-interest and party political gain, it is clear that none of you have a clue what integrity means.

Integrity is defined as an adherence to moral and ethical principles; having a soundness of moral character; honesty, the state of being whole, entire, or undiminished.

Your constituents demand integrity, the alignment of your words and your deeds.

To act without integrity makes you undependable, corrupt, a liar, and unfit to clean the toilets in your respective legislative chambers, let alone the privilege of representing the people of your respective states.

We are weary of your ineffectiveness, your sloth, your blatant, self-serving submission to the lobbying class, and your cowardice.

In fear, you retreat from your responsibilities to us.  You refuse to effectively and boldly, face the issues that plague our nation out of fear you will lose the next election, or fear that you may offend a big donor, whether they are the likes of George Soros or the Koch brothers.

You serve us.  You have sworn to uphold the Constitution.  To do less is malfeasance of office and blatant cowardice.

The nation is in trouble.  We can no longer kick the proverbial can down the road.  The time is NOW.

I am the son of a working man and a stay-at-home mom.  My father and my brother served our nation with honor through military service.

It is your sacred duty to all veterans, living and dead, and to every citizen of the United States of America, to save this great country from its pending destruction, both financial and social.

Get Over It!

I am tired. 

I am tired of the mule muffins littering the landscape.  So today, I am going to channel my inner Drill Instructor and willfully become blatantly politically incorrect.

The left will call me a bully, if, indeed, they are that polite, but I do not care.  Some things need saying and I am not afraid to say them.

George Orwell once said, “If liberty means anything at all, it means the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.”  Political correctness is the antithesis of liberty and I choose liberty and freedom over the tyranny of political correctness.

To make myself clear, mule muffins are the worthless globs of waste left behind by jackasses, in this case, the political left.

To the jackasses of the left: You lost.  Get over it.

The system worked as designed.  Get over it.

You fielded a flawed candidate who lost.  Get over it.

Your candidate ran an ineffective campaign and lost.  Get over it.

The statist agenda of the left has failed.  Get over it. 

The wisdom of Ronald Reagan illuminates the adverse effects of statism.  Statism is a system where human rights are derived from the government not, as the Declaration of Independence states, from the laws of nature and nature’s God. 

Ronald Reagan said, “I hope we once again have reminded people that man is not free unless government is limited.  There’s a clear cause and effect here that is as neat and predictable as a law of physics: as government expands, liberty contracts.”

In contrast, H.L. Mencken, best illustrates the underlying principles of statism when he said, “The urge to save humanity is almost always a false face for the urge to rule it.”

To the sensitive little snowflakes hiding in their university safe spaces: Man up and get over it.  You are in more danger from the Boogeyman than you are from the president-elect.

To the nattering nabobs of negativity, the prevaricating reprobates otherwise known as the mainstream media: You failed.  Get over it. 

Instead of doubling down with lies, hyperbole, and hysteria, perhaps it is time for some serious introspection by the media as to why their credibility is in the toilet ready to be flushed into irrelevance.

To all who voted red in November: Thank you.

It is time to celebrate as America took a giant step back from the abyss of social statism.  However, once the inaugural balls are over, the hard work begins.

Once the new president takes his seat in the oval office, we must continue to exert pressure to ensure he starts the nation firmly down the path that leads to liberty and justice for all and in this quest, we must not fall victim to the siren call of the false prophet of bipartisanism.  Bipartisanism is the code word of the Republican Party establishment for “we like things that protect our cozy little powerbase.”

To the party establishment: we won — get over it.

To the new president and Congress: We won. 

We have an opportunity to repair our nation by restoring the rule of law and the founding principles set forth in the Declaration of Independence and Constitution.  We have the opportunity to limit the size and scope of our government and thereby to increase the blessings of ordered liberty.

However, as citizens we must hold Congress and the new president accountable.  We must hold the president-elect to his promises to “Make America Great Again,” for if we fail, we all lose, and we will not have the opportunity to get over it.

Why We Fought and Why We Must Fight Again

In a 2005 article on WallBuilders.com titled God: Missing in Action from American History, David Barton outlines how Progressives have revised American history by changing the focus from people to economics.

This change of focus ignores the social, moral, and religious foundation laid down by the founding generation.  With this change of focus, the Progressives have marginalized the role of people and their faith in the founding and development of the United States.

In addition, this change of focus to economics masks the truth about the grievances, which led to our separation from England and has created an uninformed, if not illiterate population where the founding documents and principles are concerned.

According to Barton, “Today, however, history is presented in such an edited, revised, and politically-correct manner that God’s hand is rarely visible – and even the historic role of famous Godly leaders in education, business, politics, and the military is now virtually unacknowledged.”

He continues, saying that, this shift of focus to the economics of history have relegates all but one of the 27 grievances stated in the Declaration of Independence to irrelevance.  According to Progressives, it was all about taxation without representation.

As usual, the Progressives are dead wrong.

The Declaration of Independence is clear in listing just what the problems were that led to rebellion.  It is clear what the founders felt was tyranny.

The Spanish philosopher George Santayana said, “Those who fail to learn the lessons of history are doomed to repeat them.”  He was correct, for through the ignorance foisted on us by Progressives, we not only fail to understand our roots, our heritage, but our future course.

The Declaration of Independence lists 27 issues the King of England would not resolve.  We rebelled.  Today, many of these grievances can be leveled at our own government.  I have listed those 27 grievances below, pulled directly from the Declaration, in their original language.  The bullet numbers were added for clarity.

Read these grievances carefully.  Apply their words to the actions of our government today and decide whether it is time to fight.

  1. He has refused his Assent to Laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good.
  2. He has forbidden his Governors to pass Laws of immediate and pressing importance, unless suspended in their operation till his Assent should be obtained; and when so suspended, he has utterly neglected to attend to them.
  3. He has refused to pass other Laws for the accommodation of large districts of people, unless those people would relinquish the right of Representation in the Legislature, a right inestimable to them and formidable to tyrants only.
  4. He has called together legislative bodies at places unusual, uncomfortable, and distant from the depository of their public Records, for the sole purpose of fatiguing them into compliance with his measures.
  5. He has dissolved Representative Houses repeatedly, for opposing with manly firmness his invasions on the rights of the people.
  6. He has refused for a long time, after such dissolutions, to cause others to be elected; whereby the Legislative powers, incapable of Annihilation, have returned to the People at large for their exercise; the State remaining in the mean time exposed to all the dangers of invasion from without, and convulsions within.
  7. He has endeavoured to prevent the population of these States; for that purpose obstructing the Laws for Naturalization of Foreigners; refusing to pass others to encourage their migrations hither, and raising the conditions of new Appropriations of Lands.
  8. He has obstructed the Administration of Justice, by refusing his Assent to Laws for establishing Judiciary powers.
  9. He has made Judges dependent on his Will alone, for the tenure of their offices, and the amount and payment of their salaries.
  10. He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harrass our people, and eat out their substance.
  11. He has kept among us, in times of peace, Standing Armies without the Consent of our legislatures.
  12. He has affected to render the Military independent of and superior to the Civil power.
  13. He has combined with others to subject us to a jurisdiction foreign to our constitution, and unacknowledged by our laws; giving his Assent to their Acts of pretended Legislation:
  14. For Quartering large bodies of armed troops among us:
  15. For protecting them, by a mock Trial, from punishment for any Murders which they should commit on the Inhabitants of these States:
  16. For cutting off our Trade with all parts of the world:
  17. For imposing Taxes on us without our Consent:
  18. For depriving us in many cases, of the benefits of Trial by Jury:
  19. For transporting us beyond Seas to be tried for pretended offences
  20. For abolishing the free System of English Laws in a neighbouring Province, establishing therein an Arbitrary government, and enlarging its Boundaries so as to render it at once an example and fit instrument for introducing the same absolute rule into these Colonies:
  21. For taking away our Charters, abolishing our most valuable Laws, and altering fundamentally the Forms of our Governments:
  22. For suspending our own Legislatures, and declaring themselves invested with power to legislate for us in all cases whatsoever.
  23. He has abdicated Government here, by declaring us out of his Protection and waging War against us.
  24. He has plundered our seas, ravaged our Coasts, burnt our towns, and destroyed the lives of our people.
  25. He is at this time transporting large Armies of foreign Mercenaries to compleat the works of death, desolation and tyranny, already begun with circumstances of Cruelty & perfidy scarcely paralleled in the most barbarous ages, and totally unworthy the Head of a civilized nation.
  26. He has constrained our fellow Citizens taken Captive on the high Seas to bear Arms against their Country, to become the executioners of their friends and Brethren, or to fall themselves by their Hands.
  27. He has excited domestic insurrections amongst us, and has endeavoured to bring on the inhabitants of our frontiers, the merciless Indian Savages, whose known rule of warfare, is an undistinguished destruction of all ages, sexes and conditions.

Disturbing

 Two articles published today have disturbing implications for our future safety and freedom as defined in the founding documents.

 First, is an article from Godfather Politics that reports a United States Army training program identifies Evangelical Christians, Catholics, Mormons, and Orthodox Jews as terrorists on the same level as Hamas, al-Qaida, and the Klu Klux Klan.

The training was part of the Army Reserve Equal Opportunity program. The slide that listed examples of “religious extremism” put Evangelical Christianity as the first entry and included the Jewish Defense League, Catholicism and even “Islamophobia” alongside the Muslim Brotherhood, Sunni Muslims and Hamas, according to Ted Cronn, the articles author.

I find this offensive and disturbing.  That an official course of the United States military, no matter  who authored it, would make such an accusation is chilling and its existence makes one wonder just how secure our God-given rights specified by the Constitution really are in this age of intolerance.

However, what this atrocity sheds light upon is how deathly afraid the president and his slobbering sycophants are of grass-roots America.  The strength of our faith and our foundation in right and moral thinking are indeed a danger to the immoral, lewd, and lascivious who populate the political Left and are in direct conflict with their vacuous, non-beliefs. 

This is why “they” want your guns.  This is why “they” want to educate your children; and why “they” want to take away your right to speak, worship, and associate with whom you please.

The second article that disturbs me comes from Freedom OutpostIn this article, Tim Brown reports that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has sent an email to U.S. Border Patrol Agents stating that due to budget cuts and a shortage of ammunition they “will not be issued any new proficiency ammunition for next quarter.”

This email was sent after DHS purchased enough ammunition to support taking over a moderately sized country — more than 250 million rounds in their last purchase — for as yet undisclosed purposes.

According to the article, the local chapter 2554 of the National Border Patrol Council asks, “We get a 32% pay cut, even though Congress gave CBP enough money to cover salaries, and now we can’t even maintain proficiency with our service weapons to defend ourselves in the field…..Why is there an ammunition shortage?  Why can’t Border Patrol agents get enough ammunition to maintain proficiency, especially at a time of increased cross-border smuggling and illegal activity?  Where is all this ammunition going?”

This is serious national security threat as well when your border agents are not properly armed. However, it is a logical extension from an administration who has already admonished them to not fire their weapons, but run, hide and throw things. 

I guess the DHS would rather use the ammunition on those they consider real terrorists, like Christians, Jews, and Mormons, rather than waste it on drug smugglers, human traffickers, and other violent criminals coming across our borders.

New Strength and Vision for the Fight Ahead

Writing a quality blog on a regular basis is a lot of work.  I constantly read email, news articles, and commentary.  This is not only physically and mentally tiring, it is challenging emotionally and spiritually as well.

I am a positive person by nature.  I try to find the good in the people and events I encounter every day.  However, as I read and think about the path our country is traveling it is not only difficult to keep a positive mind, it becomes difficult to steer away from anger and depression as I constantly read about the latest stupidity or power grab perpetrated by someone who is supposed to be serving us.

My words have been absent from this space for three weeks not because there is nothing to write about, but rather because I found it necessary to rest my mind and to contemplate the roots of my positivism and the historic events of both the founding of our nation and the events of Holy Week.

In both of these events, I find an overriding theme of positivism, of hope, of looking forward to, and creating something better.  This is the strength of a Christian and the strength of a patriot.

Yes, it matters what the forces aligned against freedom do, but it matters more what we do in opposing them.  We cannot allow ourselves to be dragged down into the mud of hopelessness and despair by their words and deeds.  Rather, we must remain secure in our knowledge that the principles we hold, the principles upon which our nation was founded, are right and good.

We cannot compromise.  We must win, but we must win the battle of ideas — of what is truly right for this country — and we cannot do this with negativism.  We cannot ignore the negatives and the naysayers; we must address and confront them with great conviction and strength. 

It often appears that the forces of darkness and evil have all the power, all of the tools.  This is their tactic: to try control the discussion by controlling the tools and the definitions of words and the “truth” of events.  To counter this, we must be diligent and knowledgeable.  Truth is constant, but in our society, it is very difficult to dig out. 

Is the God-given freedom to live one’s life as they choose worth fighting for?  Is securing the blessings of liberty and a free society for generations to come worth the price of diligence and knowledge?

I have found the answer to these questions through tireless reading, positive thinking, and faith in God.  I will not let the forces aligned against me win without a fight.  And it is here, through my words, that I will continue that fight, promoting the great ideas of liberty and freedom that drove our founders, and still drive Americans today.

My path is clear and my voice will no longer be silent.

What I am suggesting is that each of us turn from the negativism that permeates our society and look for the remarkable good among those with whom we associate, that we speak of one another’s virtues more than we speak of one another’s faults, that optimism replace pessimism, that our faith exceed our fears.  When I was a young man and was prone to speak critically, my father would say: “Cynics do not contribute, skeptics do not create, doubters do not achieve.”  ~Gordon B. Liberty, Safety, and Limited Government

In a previous post (Moral Decay, Guns, and Leftism) I wrote that in the aftermath of the Newtown tragedy we were asking the wrong questions.  I stated that instead of looking to increasing control over guns, we should be asking questions about how we deal with mental health and to the moral health of our society.  Unfortunately, the answers derived from any meaningful self-inspection would not bear any meaningful results in the short run.

Since I wrote that post, several ideas have come to the forefront.  The first of these ideas is that instead of controlling/eliminating guns and leaving our safety in the hands of others, we should train and arm individuals to protect themselves and those around them.  In the context of Newtown, that means arming teachers. 

Articles written by Ann Coulter and Doug Giles express that eloquently this idea can be found here (Coulter: We Know How to Stop School Shootings) and here (Giles: New Rule — All Teachers Should be Allowed to Carry Guns).

In the mean time, the president and his statist/communist cronies are desperately trying not to let another crisis go to waste.  They are callously playing our emotions after the Newtown shootings to gin up support for their freedom-killing agenda.  In this instance, that agenda is to repeal the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution through draconian new gun control regulations.

The Second Amendment is clear.

“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”
  ~Amendment II to the Constitution of the United States of America, ratified December 15, 1791.

The reason the Founders, in this case the Anti-Federalists, inserted it into the Bill of Rights is that they did not trust government.  They left the ultimate power over government in the hands of the people and ensured that, in the worst-case scenario of overbearing government power, the people could ensure their continued liberty, if necessary, by force.

The Declaration of Independence lays the foundation for the principles codified in the Bill of Rights.  In the second paragraph, the Declaration of Independence states:

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.–That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, –That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.”  (Emphasis mine)

In response to the Obama administration’s overt attack on one of our fundamental Constitutional rights, the National Rifle Association (NRA) suggests we look away from additional gun control and protect our students by stationing armed guards and police at every school.

This is nonsense.  Police are reactive — they cannot protect you.  Unless you turn each school into a walled city with concertina wire and gun turrets protecting entrance checkpoints, a police presence is nothing more than a financially burdensome expansion of government into our lives. 

Armed guards were on campus, but could not stop the shootings at Columbine High School.  We must limit our dependence on government and protect ourselves.

In response to the NRA, Representative Ron Paul (R-Texas) issued a statement on his website stating, “Government security is just another kind of violence.”

“Do we really want to live in a world of police checkpoints, surveillance cameras, metal detectors, X-ray scanners, and warrantless physical searches?”  Paul wrote.

“We see this culture in our airports: witness the shabby spectacle of once proud, happy Americans shuffling through long lines while uniformed TSA agents bark orders.  This is the world of government provided ‘security,’ a world far too many Americans now seem to accept or even endorse.  School shootings, no matter how horrific, do not justify creating an Orwellian surveillance state in America.”  From The Hill.

The argument is not about whether or not to protect our children and ourselves, but rather it is about the method.  It is a fundamental question about the role of government.  It is not about the size of government, though that is a significant issue, but rather it is about the role of government. 

It is a question not about large or small government, but about limited or unlimited government.  Limited government stays within the constraints of the Constitution while unlimited government does not, no matter what size it may be.

Dennis Prager says that the larger the government, the smaller the citizen.  He is correct.  As the government expands beyond its enumerated and limited powers it becomes not a government that derives its just powers from the consent of the governed, but a government that rules by fiat backed by force — a government of men rather than a government of laws.

Two-hundred-thirty-six years ago, we fought for eight years to win the right to be free to enjoy our God-given rights without permission from a king.  It is time to stop the advance of tyranny and reclaim the government that is rightfully ours. 

The fight to save the rights guaranteed in the Second Amendment is a critical first battle in the war to take back America.

A Christmas Wish 2012

The Fight has Just Begun! — A Personal Note

I have been Missing-in-Action (MIA) on this blog since the election on November 6. 

On Election Day, I worked as a precinct officer in Los Angeles County, California, processing voters and doing my part to ensure a fair and efficient election.  In my precinct, we processed over 500 voters, a record turnout, and unlike Florida and other states, California had a clean, efficient election with fast, and accurate, results. 

However, somewhere during that long day, I picked up a bug that tackled me like an NFL linebacker and knocked me down for 10 days.  I must have got it from one of the Democrats who voted that day. 

I want to thank all my readers for their continuing interest in the things I have to say.  On Election Day I had a record number of visitors to my blog and now have readers in more than 60 nations.  Thank you.  I gives me renewed strength knowing that the cause of Liberty resonates throughout the world.  I am in good health once again and am ready to resume the fight. 

The cause of Liberty did not die with the re-election of Barack Obama. 

The road has become more difficult, but we can achieve victory if we stay true to our core values.  We must go out and take our values to the enemy no matter where they may be. 

We must enumerate our values, illuminate them, explain, and stridently defend them as the only way to put this country back on a course to recovery and greatness. 

I am one voice, but I will do my part.  I will read, I will write, I will speak when the opportunity arises.  I will continue to be a scholar warrior for the cause of traditional America and Liberty. 

As you read my words, you can help the cause by talking about what you read here and forward my posts to others who have not seen or read them.  As John Adams once said, “Let us dare to read, think, speak, and write.”

This blog is not about me.  It is, as the title suggests, about defending Liberty.  It is a fight worth fighting, and it is a fight that we must win. 

As John Paul Jones said from amidst the flames of his sinking warship, “I have not yet begun to fight.”  

Jones went on to rally his tired and bloody crew to victory, seizing his enemy’s ship.  We too must rally and seize victory from what appears to be defeat.

Join me as I continue the fight to not only defend Liberty, but advance it with truth and reason.

Change We Can’t Live With

In the 2008 campaign candidate Obama promised us hope and to fundamentally change America. 

It is as plain as day to everyone, except the automatons on the far left, that the fundamental changes Obama has initiated are destructive and have brought despair rather than hope to an increasing number of Americans.

Obama, along with his cadre of crooks, cronies, and communists, have shredded the Constitution and the principles embedded in the Declaration of Independence.  If his policies are extended to their logical end, we will live not in the great republic that is the United States of America, but in a totalitarian state where there are no rights except those that the mastermind grants at his pleasure.  And, like all tyrants throughout human history, the rights granted can be rescinded at any time, without warning or due process.

All hail King Obama I.  B. Hussein Obama is no better than King George III.  In case you don’t remember your American History lessons, we fought a war to free ourselves from far less tyranny than we suffer now — The American Revolution.

Every day I receive dozens of emails and scan reams of web pages.  Every day I read of more corruption, more deceit, and ever-increasing onslaughts on, and atrocities perpetrated against, our civil liberties, Constitutional limitations on the power of government, and the rule of law.

While Obama and the crackpots and dunderheads in Congress are easy targets, and indeed we must usher in a regime change, we must also seek and destroy all vestiges of statism.

Statism is the foundation of the political Left.  The fundamental principle of statism is that humans cannot be trusted to run their own lives and that all human and civil rights are derived not from God, but from government and those who control it.  Statism is the antithesis of liberty and freedom.

Statism is also contrary to the principle of the rule of law as instead of the certainty and inherent fairness and equality of an equal application of the law; statism is capricious and subject to the whims of the beloved leader.

Our freedom is based upon the rule of law, individual rights, and limited government; all of which are outlined in, and guaranteed by, the Constitution.  The statists, led by Obama and his fellow travelers, are hell bent on destroying these basic principles.

It is in the anti-human, anti-liberty, anti-freedom godless principles of statism where the ultimate danger to our continued existence as a free, powerful, and prosperous nation lies.

If the United States fails to remain the last best hope for freedom, the rest of the globe will follow into the abyss of an economic, and social, dark ages from which it may never again escape.

The decisions we make in November will not only chart the course for the United States, but perhaps for the future of the human race. 

Choose wisely and pray to God that enough of our fellow citizens make the right choice for the choice is simple: freedom and prosperity or slavery.

It All Began Today

April 19, 1775, is a date all Americans should honor and remember.  It is a day second in importance only to July 4.  It is the day the American Revolution began.

Tension between the American colonists and the British had been rising for years.  The British occupied Boston, Massachusetts.

General Thomas Gage, the military governor of Massachusetts received orders to disarm the colonial militias and arrest key colonial leaders.  The day before the battle, Gage scouted the area around Concord, Massachusetts, suspecting the militia’s cache of supplies was hidden there.

However, Gage’s scouting party alerted the Patriots of their intentions.  Patriot leaders such as Samuel Adams and John Hancock left the area for the safety of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  That night, Patriot leader Dr. Joseph Warren sent William Dawes and Paul Revere to alert the militia that the British were headed to Lexington and Concord.  Most of the supplies at Concord were moved elsewhere.  In the morning, the British sent 700 men to Lexington.

The Patriot militia mustered on the Lexington town green with orders not to fire unless fired upon.  At sunrise, the British arrived.  Their commander ordered the militia to disperse and lay down their arms.  The militia began to disperse, but kept their weapons.

A shot rang out.  The battle began.  The British charged forward and drove the militia from the green.  Musket smoke filled the green.  When the some cleared, eight militiamen were dead and ten wounded.  One British soldier was injured.

The British moved on toward their original objective: Concord.

The militia in Concord took up a defensive position on a hill across the North Bridge while the British force searched the town for the colonials’ munitions cache.  While the British searched for munitions, militia from surrounding towns was reinforcing the Concord militia.

The British found little munitions, but disable three cannons.

The colonial militia, now 400 strong, advanced towards the bridge and engaged the British.  The militiamen fired across the river, forcing the British back into the town.  The British commander did not engage the militia and readied his men for the march back to Boston.

As the British marched back towards Boston, the militia attacked.  The first attack was at Meriam’s Corner, about a mile from Concord.  This was followed by another attack at Brooks Hill, and by a third at the “Bloody Angle.”

At the “Bloody Angle,” more than 200 militiamen fired on the British from behind trees and fences on both sides of the road, catching the British in crossfire.  As the British neared Lexington, the Lexington militia ambushed them.  When they finally reached Lexington, the battered British troops were reinforced, and continued their march to Boston.

The Massachusetts militia suffered 50 killed, 39 wounded, and five missing that day.  The British forces lost 73 dead, 173 wounded, and 26 missing.

This is our heritage.  This is the American spirit.  This is the history of this great land and its people.

This is the essence of America that Obama and the Left sneer at, and spit upon. This is the heritage Obama and the Left want to “fundamentally transform.” 

This is the history they continue to revise in order to fit it to their warped idea of the truth. This is not the history they teach our children.

The men at Lexington and Concord, outnumbered and outgunned, took on the most powerful nation on earth that day in 1775, more than a year before the Declaration of Independence was signed.  Fifty of them made the ultimate sacrifice.

That is courage; the courage of men and women who loved Liberty more than life. This is the America that we must reclaim and preserve.

It starts by eliminating the Leftists from all levels of our government on November 6.

America’s Great Uncivil War of the 21st Century

In 1863, Abraham Lincoln spoke these now famous words as he dedicated the cemetery at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania:

“Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.  Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation, or any nation so conceived and dedicated, can long endure….we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain — that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom — and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.”

That “great civil war” ended, but we are now engaged in another civil war.  This war is not between states, but between those who want to live free and those who would enslave them.

This war is between conservatives and statists. 

Conservatives, simply stated, believe in the principles set forth in the Declaration of Independence and in the limited government established by the United States Constitution.  This assures our personal liberty and prosperity.  It is the foundation of ordered liberty.  It is a system that allows us, as individuals, the right to live, work, speak, and worship as we choose without interference from any power below God.

The statists are the polar opposite.  They deny God and the rights of man.  They have anointed themselves as our keepers, and as our betters.  They do not seek liberty, they seek control.  They dream of a Utopia where everyone is equal, but are ruled by a sovereign, a sovereign group, or a mastermind.  They seek to “improve” mankind by controlling us.  They strive to make everyone equal.  However, the only way we can become equal is to become equally poor, so they control, regulate, and destroy until people become helpless and dependent upon them. 

 This schism is best illustrated through three quotes: The first from the Declaration of Independence, and the second two from Karl Marx.

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.—That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, —That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.”

This is why this year’s election is critical.  The statists, whether they call themselves liberals, progressives, or Democrats, have been in power for 100 years.  Because of their failed and corrupt policies, we are burdened with massive debt, ever-increasing taxes, ever-expanding government, and diminishing personal freedom.

The current president, and his cadre of cronies, crooks, and communists, is hell-bent on destroying the America we know.  It is time we reverse America’s decline and throw all of the bums out.

America cannot move forward as long as the statists are in the driver’s seat.  They regulate, spend, and spend some more while they divide us through the façade of class warfare, whether it is by race, economics, or education.  In the name of economic, social, or environmental “justice,” they seek to force equal outcomes/results while destroying equal opportunity. We cannot survive any more of their lies, falsifications, fabrications, revisionism, and arrogance.

In this election, from the local school boards and state legislatures, to Congress and the president, we must rid ourselves of their influence and relegate them, and their treasonous disregard for the founding principles, to history’s compost heap to rot into something more useful — manure. That is environmental justice.

We must ask ourselves two monumentally important questions.  Our future, the future of our children and grandchildren, and the future of America rests upon our answers, and our actions.

Which side are you on in this, our second civil war?  Do you want to live in a society governed by the principles of the Declaration of Independence or one governed by those of Marx?

The answers are as clear as they were 150 years ago: freedom or slavery.

Is Obama Readying for War on Americans?

In a March 28, 2012 article, Business Insider reports that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) have contracted with munitions manufacturer ATK for 450 million rounds of high performance .40 caliber rounds.

 “The high performance HST bullets are designed for law enforcement and ATK says they offer ‘optimum penetration for terminal performance.’

“This refers to the bullet’s hollow-point tip that passes through barriers and expands for a bigger impact without the rest of the bullet getting warped out of shape: ‘this bullet holds its jacket in the toughest conditions,’” according to the article.

The article continues stating that Business Insider has learned that DHS and ICE are also looking to buy 175 million rounds of .223 caliber rifle ammunition.

To what purpose is DHS/ICE going to use this amount of ammunition?  The fighting in both Iraq and Afghanistan consumed approximately 1.8 billion rounds a year actively fighting well-armed foes with more than 100,000 troops at the peak of both wars.  The more than half-billion rounds ordered by DHS/ICE are enough to fight a war.

Who will that war be fought with?  The chilling answer is that it may be you and me.  You know who they are after; it’s those angry folks who cling to their religion and their guns, and those so-called domestic terrorists — the T.E.A. Party and the N.R.A. — and anyone who has the audacity to yearn to live free.

In a Washington Times commentary, Jeffery T. Kuhner warns of a sweeping government power grab.  According to Kuhner,

 “On March 16, the White House released an executive order, ‘National Defense Resources Preparedness.’  The document is stunning in its audacity and a flagrant violation of the Constitution.  It states that, in case of a war or national emergency, the federal government has the authority to take over almost every aspect of American society.  Food, livestock, farming equipment, manufacturing, industry, energy, transportation, hospitals, health care facilities, water resources, defense and construction — all of it could fall under the full control of Mr. Obama.  The order empowers the president to dispense these vast resources as he sees fit during a national crisis….

“…In short, the order gives Mr. Obama the ability to impose martial law.  He now possesses the potential powers of a dictator.  The order is a direct assault on individual liberties, private property rights and the rule of law.  It is blatantly unconstitutional.  The executive branch is arrogating responsibilities precluded by the Constitution without even asking the permission of Congress.  The order gives Mr. Obama a blank check to erect a centralized authoritarian state.  This is a law one would expect to find in Hugo Chavez’s Venezuela or Vladimir Putin’s Russia.”

Incidentally, the White House Office of the Press Secretary released the text of this executive order marked “For Immediate Release.”  Despite the importance of this order, I have found no evidence that any of the Left Stream Media bothered to even mention it, let alone analyze its content and impact.  But they don’t care, so it just doesn’t matter.

The raison d’être, or reason for existing, of the Left is power.  Their one and only goal is to establish the supremacy of government and enslave the rest of us.  This is diametrically opposed to the traditional American view of limited government and individual liberty.

Because of the Left’s incessant thirst for complete control and their dismissal of the Constitution and its limitations on government power (except when it fits their plans), questions about the timing of this executive power grab must be posed, for this new “army,” armed with lethal force, is not answerable to anyone but Obama.

If ObamaCare is ruled unconstitutional, will Obama ignore the Supreme Court’s ruling and use force to bend us to his will? 

When Obama loses the election in November, will Obama use his new personal army (DHS/ICE) to ignore both the Constitution and the will of the people to stay in power? 

Or will Obama use this unconstitutional “army” to disarm America?

“The president does not — and should not – have the authority to subordinate the entire private economy to the government, especially without the consent of Congress and the American people.  It is national socialism masquerading as military security,” according to Kuhner.

There is a glimmer of hope.  In my post on August 25, 2011, I wrote about a little known law that enables Congress to rein in the president’s power manifested in Executive Orders.

The Congressional Review Act (Public Law PL 104-121) allows Congress to review EVERY regulation and, through a joint resolution, overrule them.  The law, passed in 1996 as part of the Small Business Regulatory Enforcement Fairness Act of 1996, spells out the review and override procedures.

As with any bill, the president has veto power, but Congress can override his veto.  For the text of the CRA, go here.

Executive orders pose a different challenge.

Congress cannot simply vote to override an executive order.  They can, however, draft and pass legislation cancelling or changing the order.  Legislation to override an executive order is subject to the same rules, including veto and veto override, as any other bill.

This is an election year.  One-third of the Senate and the entire House of Representatives is up for election.  This is the time when We, the people have the most power. 

We must pressure Congress and threaten them with removal with relentless and ongoing pressure.  They must muster some spine; yes, even some Democrats have a little spine, to reclaim their Constitutional legislative power and use the CRA to stop Obama’s power grab.

It will take bi-partisan support to muster the two-thirds vote required in each house to override the president’s inevitable veto of such a bill, but we must demand that they act.  They must act now and in our interest.  No more, no less.

Despite the odds, we must act as the freedom and liberty of each and every American, and those yet to be born, is in peril.  The future of America depends on what we do in 2012.

Underwear, Shoes, Cupcakes, and Too Much Government

The TSA ineptness and insanity continues.

A story posted on the Drudge Report from The Boston Channel reports that the fools at the Transportation Safety Administration — the unionized, tax-payer funded molesters and voyeurs charged with keeping grannies in Depends and other terrorists off of U.S. airlines — would not let a woman board a flight from Las Vegas, Nevada back to her home in Boston because her cupcake was a security threat.

This ridiculous episode is just the tip of the iceberg of the ever-expanding operations of what amounts to a KGB-style national security police where United States citizens are under constant scrutiny as threats to national security.

Paul Joseph Watson reports on Info Wars that in addition to the $5 billion the TSA has already spent allegedly securing our airports; they are now asking Congress for an additional $25 million, to supplement the $110 million they have already spent, to fund additional VIPR (Visible Intermodal Prevention and Response) teams. 

The VIPR teams conduct random, warrantless checkpoints throughout the nation, without probable cause, to search for and detain anyone suspected of, well, anything, on the highways, in bus stations, on trains, anywhere.

Watson quotes an article from the Los Angeles Times stating

The extra money is being demanded despite the fact that there is “no proof that the roving viper teams have foiled any terrorist plots or thwarted any major threat to public safety,” according to the L.A. Times report, which also highlights how the TSA’s sniffer dogs are used to single out people for questioning if the dog smells the scent of the owner’s pets on their clothing.

Now to complete an evil triumvirate, earlier this month Congress passed the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) which includes provisions (Title X, Subtitle D, Section 1031, page 359 of S 1867) that allow unlimited detention without trial of anyone the government considers a terrorist or a supporter of terrorism.

If this does not make it clear the federal government has grown too big and too powerful, and dangerous to our personal freedom and physical liberty guaranteed by the Constitution, then consider this piece of information: In recent Congressional debates whether to pass a continuing budget resolution (CBR) to keep the government fully funded, proponents of the CBR said that without the resolution, the government would have to lay off more than 800,000 NON‑ESSENTIAL workers.  Nearly a million NON‑ESSENTIAL workers!  Why are non-essential workers employed at all?

According to a report published in March 2010 by USA Today, federal employees earned an average salary of $67,691 in 2008, nearly $10,000 more than the equivalent private sector jobs.  The article states, “The federal government spent about $224 billion in 2008 on compensation for about 2 million civilian employees.” 

Forty per cent of the federal civilian workforce is non-essential.  Eliminating non-essential employees makes the government smaller and more efficient — and eliminates $54 billion from the federal budget.

It is past time to reclaim our government and re-establish just who is the servant, and who is the master.

The Day Liberals Hope You Forget

Today I December 15. 

To most, it is just another day in the pre-Christmas hustle and bustle. 

For Liberals, however, it is a day that they hope you forget, for if you remember the importance of this day, their mission to steal your liberty through an ever-expanding federal government will fail.

The last 100 years of “progressive” education has dumbed our youth and trivialized, or re-written, our history to serve their quest for power and control.  In fact, I am certain that any of my readers born after 1970 are totally unaware of the importance of this day.

Today, December 15, 1791, is the day the Bill of Rights, the first 10 amendments to the Constitution of the United States, was ratified.

In this You Tube video, radio host Dennis Prager talks about the American trilogy: Liberty, e pluribus unum, and In God We Trust.  I agree that these three phrases express the essence of America’s greatness, its exceptionalism. 

However, there is another American trilogy; one that ensures the first.  The second trilogy is comprised of The Declaration of Independence; The Constitution of the United States; and the Bill of Rights.  These are the principles that are threatened, dismissed, ignored, and trampled upon daily.

However, just what is being trampled upon?  Unfortunately, far too many citizens cannot identify the Bill of Rights, or the rights which it addresses and guarantees

A complete examination of the 10 amendments that comprise the Bill of Rights is beyond the scope of this blog. 

However, I encourage you to follow this link and read the Bill of Rights.  For additional information, follow this link to the Tenth Amendment Center and read the article by Michael Boldin on the importance of the Bill of Rights today.

We cannot preserve our liberty if we do not understand from where it comes.  Knowledge is power, the power to maintain the freedoms guaranteed in the Bill of Rights. 

To be ignorant is to become a slave, a slave to the whims of an ever-expanding, ubiquitous nanny state.

The choice is yours.

Food Gestapo Wants Your Burger

According to an article from CNS News (Read Complete Article Here), United States Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack told members of the National Restaurant Association last Monday (September 19) that Americans need to “adjust” their tastes so that they like the kind of food the government believes they should eat.

Enough already!

This is Statist arrogance at its worst.

Since when did the people of the United States give up their right to choose what food they will eat?  Since when did the scope of the USDA expand to the role of national food Gestapo?

The only legitimate role for the USDA is to encourage maximum efficient crop yields and to ensure that our food is not contaminated.  No more.  To do more, treads on the individual’s right to choose.

This is about more than food.

The bottom line is that Secretary Vilsack, and the First Lady, think we are too stupid to make what THEY think are good choices.  In their leftist-statist mindset, they look upon average Americans like they are unruly children that need discipline and constant guidance so that they will conform to the government’s view of what is correct behavior.  

Sounds like George Orwell’s big brother scenario in 1984.

We are not children, Mr. Secretary.

Oh, I can hear the liberals howl about obese children, an epidemic of coronary disease, and the pandemic of diabetes because of the junk we eat.  Well, a majority of these problems arise from two sources: bad personal decisions and bad parenting or both.  The government cannot, and should not, attempt to fix or control either.

If our great fathers and mothers in Washington don’t like the way we eat, they should just sit down, and shut up.

Liberty is the freedom to make your own choices.  If those choices turnout to be bad or harmful, liberty also gives us the opportunity for do-over’s.  As the old adage goes, “If at first you don’t succeed, try, and try again.”

However, the fact remains that those choices are ours to make, ours alone.

 OURS! 

My parents were the last people who told me what to eat.  It was their responsibility as parents. 

Secretary Vilsack, Mrs. Obama — you are not my parents!  Keep your nanny-state notions to yourself and stay out of my kitchen and away from my meals!

The NFL’s Assault on Liberty

One small step for safety; one giant leap towards the destruction of liberty.

According to an article in USA Today, the NFL wants to pat down fans from the ankles up.  (see NFL wants pat-downs from ankles up at all stadiums)  Lessons learned, no doubt, from the TSA.  What’s next, strip searches?

How complacent and lemming-like have we become to just passively accept violations of our fundamental, God-given rights guaranteed by the Constitution.  The founders made it perfectly clear that this type of nonsense, as well as the physical abuse perpetrated by the TSA, is not acceptable in a free society. 

The Fourth Amendment to the United States Constitution states: “The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.”  (Emphasis added)

Benjamin Franklin once said “They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither safety nor liberty.”

Is that “little temporary safety” at a football game worth the price?  Are we so afraid that we cannot attend a public event without subjecting ourselves to the degradation and embarrassment of a physical search? 

To live life in fear is not a life worth living.  Life is fraught with danger.  We face risk of harm, even death, with every breath we take.  It is part of life.  It is part of nature.  Despite our arrogance as a species, we cannot control nature — we cannot control fate.

In this life, it is only in the warped fantasy of the godless, socialist utopia that we are free from harm; and in that nightmare, we are also “free” of liberty.  It is those who believe in this “utopia” who usurp the power of government in an attempt to control life and eliminate liberty.  These are the people who perpetrate and excuse the atrocities of the TSA.

Now, in the name of the great god of safety, the NFL wants to pat you down before the game.

Enough!

We must make our displeasure known.  We must be loud and clear. 

To make it crystal clear that we are fed up with all the intrusions into our personal lives we need to revolt — economically.  We must boycott any entity, corporate or governmental, that attempts to weaken or destroy our personal liberty. 

We must make it clear that we will not trade our “essential liberty” to watch a football game or travel on an air plane.

NFL fans: stop buying tickets. 

Travelers: stop flying on major holidays. 

Once the average Jane and Joe opt out, the system, whether it is the TSA or the NFL, the system will change or collapse in bankruptcy.  This is how great changes are affected.  It has worked before, and it will work gain.

Ronald Reagan said, “The nine most terrifying words in the English language are, ‘I’m from the government and I’m here to help.’”  Truer words have not been spoken.

However, it is time Americans stand up and take care of themselves.

It is time the government, the liberals, and all the other do-gooders, to leave us alone.  When they do, we will lead happier, more productive, and safer lives with the full blessings of liberty.
