Failure and Deceit

“Facts are stubborn things; and whatever may be our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictates of our passion, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence.”
~John AdamsArgument in Defense of the Soldiers in the Boston Massacre Trials, December 1770

By Alden L. Benton

While the Obama/Biden campaign drones on about meaningless gaffes and non-issues, the facts remain.

While the so-called mainstream media fabricate or hide the truth, the facts remain.

While the president tries to smooth-talk us, and his court jester vice president mocks us, the facts remain.

The state of facts and evidence is clear.  The president and his policies, foreign and domestic, have failed to serve the best interests of the people of the United States.

The list of presidential failures and deceit is long and tedious, so I will list evidence of two as reported today (October 2, 2012) by

The State Department denied repeated requests for greater security at the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya, according to House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-California) and Representative Jason Chaffets (R-Utah).

Issa and Chaffets said:

“Based on information provided to the committee by individuals with direct knowledge of events in Libya, the attack that claimed the ambassador’s life was the latest in a long line of attacks on Western diplomats and officials in Libya in the months leading up to September 11, 2012,” they wrote.  “In addition, multiple U.S. federal government officials have confirmed to the committee that, prior to the September 11 attack, the U.S. mission in Libya made repeated requests for increased security in Benghazi.  The mission in Libya, however, was denied these resources by officials in Washington.”  (FoxNews)

Refusing to protect American diplomats is an abject failure of policy that cost four American lives.

The president is unable to defend his economic record with facts and evidence.  Indeed, the facts and evidence are clear and they are not what the president wants to hear in an election year.

What is clear is that when the cuts mandated by the deficit reduction deal last summer take effect on January 2, 2013, the defense industry will suffer.  Not good news for the president’s re-election hopes if it becomes known prior to the election that thousands of defense workers are about to lose their jobs.

FoxNews reports that the Obama administration has offered to pick up the check — at taxpayer expense — for legal costs associated with defense industry layoffs should Congress fail to stop the planned cuts .

In addition, last week the administration doubled down on that plea by offering to cover legal fees in compensation challenges.

Representative Buck McKeon (R-California), chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, said the notice amounted to a “threat” to contractors.

According to a Fox News report, McKeon said, “It appears companies will bow to the threat implicit in last week’s OMB guidance; withhold notices today or the government might not cover your court costs down the road.”

The article continued, stating that, “…McKeon warned that the administration was using tax dollars to win over companies to follow the ‘dubious’ and ‘politically motivated’ guidance to ignore the federal law known as the WARN Act.”

Senator Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) claimed Obama was trying to prevent layoff notices from hitting mailboxes “right before the election.”

“This is typical Barack Obama politics — being supportive of the WARN Act when convenient and against it when it creates political downside,” Graham said.

This is nothing more than ham-fisted, Chicago-style win at any cost politics.  The president knows that if companies start sending out layoff notices before the election (companies must issue 60-day notices of potential layoffs) it will have disastrous implications for his re-election chances.  So he twists arms and ignores the law to cajole companies with our tax dollars into giving him what he wants.

Failure, deceit, and corruption — America cannot withstand four more years of the same old same old.

No matter how the president or his sycophants in the media want to spin it, this is the state of the facts and evidence.
