“For having lived long, I have experienced many instances of being obliged, by better information or fuller consideration, to change opinions, even on important subjects, which I once thought right but found to be otherwise.” ~Benjamin Franklin

Over the past few days, I have posted several columns urging Ron Paul, Newt Gingrich, and Rick Santorum to withdraw from the Republican Party primaries in favor of presenting a unified front against Obama behind the current front-runner, Mitt Romney.
After reading a column by Thomas Sowell titled The ‘Inevitability’ Vote, I decided to rethink my position.
To put it bluntly, I was wrong!
I don’t like Mitt Romney.
He is a smarmy shape-shifter who can be trusted only to say what we want to hear. He flips and flops on everything from justifying RomneyCare, Massachusetts’ ObamaCare nightmare, to his alleged conservative bona fides.
Romney has bought elections through massive spending and wholesale personal attacks on his Republican rivals. Never has he given us anything but double-talk, and smoke and mirrors about how he will lead us out of the Obama Nation back to the freedom of a minimalist government.
As Thomas Sowell points out, the smarmy tactics Romney has used against his primary rivals will not work against the president. As for any presidential debates, Obama will eat him for lunch and dinner, without a teleprompter.
Despite the numbers, despite the pundits and the Left-Media accolades, the Mittster is not my guy, nor should he be anyone’s guy. Just because he looks good in a suit and was a successful vulture capitalist, doesn’t make him presidential fodder. Business and government are polar opposites; success in one pretty much guarantees failure in the other.
No candidate is without warts. However, the 2012 election will determine the course of our nation for years to come.
It is clear to me that the nation will not survive, as we know it, under the onslaught of four more years of Obama. However, do we want to risk defeat by putting up a candidate who is not up to the challenge? I think not. And Romney is not up to that challenge.
My message to Ron Paul, Newt Gingrich, and Rick Santorum, is stay in the fight until the last polling place closes. Step up the fight, not against Romney, but against the Left and the president.
We need leaders with heart, fire, passion, and vision. Show us what you’ve got. Show us the way, and we will follow.
Attack the president and his policies and offer sound, workable solutions to the problems we face, problems created primarily by Obama. Stand against the seething tide of Statist vomit and moral relativism. Fight on and fight hard to restore the greatness that is America.
As you continue the fight, take strength from these words of a Revolutionary War patriot,
“If fear is cultivated it will become stronger, if faith is cultivated it will achieve mastery.” ~ John Paul Jones
“I have not yet begun to fight!” ~John Paul Jones
