According to FOX News, President Obama announced today that the United States is withdrawing all troops from Iraq by the end of 2011.
After eight years and 4,400 dead, negotiations with the Iraqi government finalized the December 31 deadline originally set in by President Bush in 2003.
FOX News reported that President Obama said the remaining 40,000-45,000 U.S. troops “will definitely be home for the holidays.”
I commend the president for his decision to end our involvement in Iraq. It is time for Iraq to stand or fall on its own.
However, I cannot help but wonder about the reasoning behind this decision.
The president’s approval numbers are dismal. He has no positive record on which to run for re-election. This decision will no doubt resonate well in America.
The president is, however, a master of deceit and distraction. Bringing our brave young warrior men and women home at this time is designed to distract us from the ugly realities his policies have foisted upon us as a nation.
Be happy that our heroes are coming home. Welcome them. Be proud of them and the job they did.
However, do not be fooled by the president. He is trying to manipulate you into believing he is a competent, compassionate leader. He is neither.
